AGGREGATION

AGGREGATION is a layered installation, featuring video footage of a performance in which the artist connects themselves to an EKG machine using 6 body leads, as well as monitors on their wrists and ankles. The artist takes a series of readings on the EKG machine as they recount a series of emotionally-poignant memories. These readings are displayed in the installation, while smaller monitors reflect seismographic, astronomical, atmospheric and biological data rendered in sinusoidal curves. On the oscilloscope atop the largest monitor, audio of the artist recounting the memories associated with each EKG reading is rendered visually, as a sinusoidal waveform. The  accumulation of readings levels all sensory information to one single, indiscernible visual language, where hierarchies of emotionality, personal significance and "meaning" within the data become obsolete in their abstraction. The bodily outputs captured in the performance are lost in the sea of aggregated information. The installation is silent, aside from the hissing white noise emitted by the two antennae-bearing monitors.
